Dear Sian
Did you think I was lost? You haven't seen me for a very long time.
Don't worry, I am not lost, I'm away on my holidays.. a very. very long way away from where you live.
Here I am with my ticket to travel. I wonder where it will take me? Being a little green magnetic sort of person, I cannot read the ticket. Perhaps you can.
I will try to send you another message, so call back another time.
Lots of love and hugs: from your favourite little green person.
Second postcard to Sian.
Did you guess where I was going from the ticket? I could not tell so my journey is a great big mystery tour. I saw lots of ships in a vast harbour. Great ships and small ships; ships that take goods and cargo around the world, ships that take people around the world, little ships that pull other ships, and a very busy little ship that was showing others the way.
Can you guess what the little ships that pull the big ships are called?
Can you guess what the little ship which leads the big ones out to sea is called?
Perhaps I will tell you in my next letter.
You have probably guessed that I am travelling on a ship somewhere across the sea. I am travelling NORTH, so if you stand in your living room and point towards Leicester, turn to your right a little bit...that's the way I am going!
There are lots of pictures to show you but I just can't reach them right now.
Keep checking back though - I will write again soon.
Lots of love
Little Green Person
Third post card to Sian
I have been very busy learning about boats and ships. Did you find the answers to my questions?
Little ships that pull big ships are called TUGS.
Little ships that guide the big ships out to sea are called PILOT BOATS and their captain is called the PILOT. I would so much like to be a ship's pilot one day but I think I am far too small and my magnetic hands and feet would stick to everything on the boat.
Here is one of the boats I saw:
This is not the ship that I sailed on. My ship was called
the 'Hjattland'. When you say this word say Jatland.
It was very big and even had a cinema inside. I had a proper bedroom with a shower and everything. Even cups of tea could be made with a special little kettle.
See me here on my pillow with my sleeping bag.
I had a very good night's sleep, especially after some hot chocolate!
Soon it was time to get up. Half past six! The ship sailed into harbour at half past seven. I went to restaurant for breakfast.
Getting out of the Hjattland was like coming out of the mouth of a very, very, large whale. And guess what? There ARE whales where I have been. I was sorry not to see any though.
I am missing you while I am away on my adventures. Hope to see you soon.
Love from your little green person. XXX
Fourth postcard to Sian
Dear Sian,
for a very small green person I have been very, very busy. I'm so tired! Remember my last postcard when I said that going into the big ship was like being swallowed by a huge whale?
Well, going into this door way was very scary. See how dark it is. It felt like the whale again! But it wasn't scary once I was inside, it was quite warm and just a little bit dark in the corners, just like a church really.
This is the door way of a castle. What an adventure going up the stairs, right to the very top.
No kings have ever lived in this castle, only very rich powerful people in the olden days.
I've seen lots of different types of houses today, that different types of people have lived in.
Look at this very beautiful little house. It is called a CROFT now, but when it was first made it was called a 'butt and ben'. Isn't that strange? Very poor people lived here, people who got their food from the sea and kept a few animals, like sheep or a goat or two, and tiny little ponies. Look at the door of the little house; on each side there is a window. One window shows us the room that the people lived in. It would have a fire place in and perhaps beds too. The window on the other side of the door would be where the animals slept at night and where they would be in the winter, to keep out of the cold.
When people got rich enough, they would build another little place for the animals and then they would have a proper bedroom for themselves.
I think the people who lived in this little house must have been very poor. The house looks very lonely and sad. I cheered it up by having a look inside and singing a happy little song. I sang:
'This old house ain't got no ceiling, this old house ain't got no floor
Ain't got time to fix those windows, ain't got time to mend that door
Ain't got time to mend the roof top or to fix the window pane
This old house don't look too pretty, but I love it just the same'.
I'm sure I saw the old tin house smile!
As well as different houses I saw lots of something else. The sea. The sea is every where, all around me. That's because I am on an island... in fact I've been on lots of little islands, crossing between them on different boats.
You have seen a picture of very large boats, now here is one of very small boats. They are great fun but they do make my hair stand on end!
In the background are more houses, wooden ones this time. Aren't they lovely? Pretty houses like garden play houses to live in!
Now I am really tired and must go off to bed to sleep. One last picture coming up.............
Good night for now.
God bless
Lots of love from the little green traveller.
