Sian Ahoy!

Well, here I am looking out of the window of a very large boat at a small boat passing by. I've been learning lots of sailing words this week. I learned that sailors don't call 'hello', they call 'Ahoy there' just like pirates do! I also learned the sailor words for 'right' and 'left'. They are 'port' and 'starboard'. Can you tell which is which? Sailors don't put the kettle on in the kitchen. They cook their meals in the 'galley' instead. Font and back are called 'fore' and 'aft'. They don't go downstairs, they go 'down below'.

I've had some fun times. I've played hide'n'seek in amongst some lovely warm stones. Deep in there I found a little crab hiding. I ran out very quick before he could catch me.
Look at the beautiful sand in this picture. Can you see how it goes all the way across the water to the island beyond? Isn't it lovely. I went to another place like this too....... the strip of sand there is called a TOMBOLA. Many birds were landing there to rest. Then they would all fly off together to catch fish from the sea. The birds I saw were arctic terns, oyster catchers and puffins. Use Google to find out what they look like. The were far too fast for my camera to capture.

I wonder if you can see what this sign says? I was looking for the path along the cliff top. The arrow points one way, but the word is upside down.

I stood on my head to read it!Not many people have met Pete. Here he is sitting by the side of the road. Pete is all made out of flower pots and by his side is a little flower pot dog too. In a basket on his back is a piece of peat. Peat is like hard soil and it burns like wood or coal on a fire. Pete's been collecting peat!

You will never guess where I am now? I'm waving to you from the side of a lighthouse. It's very, very windy. Whheeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! Hope I don't blow away. The next stop from here is the arctic circle!

I liked the light house. Inside there was a display made by the RSPB, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. They try to look after the puffins and the other lovely birds. They told me that sometimes, from this lighthouse you can see whales and their babies.

Time for me to get some sleep now.
Bye for now.. I will write again soon and perhaps I will be home for Christmas.
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
